ST. PAUL, Minnesota (KTTC) – A wave of condemnations was made by GOP officials and groups across the state of Minnesota on Sunday, following allegations against state GOP chief Jennifer Carnahan .

“If all of this is true, then this Mr. Lazarro should feel the full weight of the law. It is a horrible crime, the sex trafficking of minors is just unfathomable. And so too, if some people make allegations that Jennifer Carnahan is in some way associated with her, if she had any prior knowledge or knowledge of what was going on then she should immediately step down from her position, ”said Christopher Brandt, President of Olmsted’s GOP.

The allegations follow two arrests: that of a 19-year-old woman involved in Republicans at Minnesota College and that of top GOP activist and donor Anton Lazzaro. Both were arrested for their involvement in a sex trafficking ring.

Several Minnesota GOP associations have called for Carnahan’s resignation because she is a close friend of Lazzaro. Republicans at Minnesota College released a statement, citing:

“It has come to our attention that Carnahan was made aware of this incident, but took no action. It likely set a precedent for how she would react to future allegations made within the party.”

In Rochester, the GOP chairwoman of Olmsted said she should step down if the legal process goes ahead, and it is true that she is aware of the suspects’ activities.

“If she knew about these illegal activities and these terrible crimes, then she should resign immediately, and I think there would be legal ramifications for her,” Brandt said.

Speaking to Rochester State Representative David Senjem, he said he found it hard to believe that she would be complicit in such horrific crimes and that the whole situation was difficult to understand.

“If she knew anything about it, she should quit immediately,” Brandt said.
