The U.S. men’s basketball team have faced constant and at times relentless criticism since they started arguing ahead of the 2020 Olympics for their lack of dominance on the court. But the team still managed to win gold in Tokyo, and coach Gregg Popovich gave a touching post-victory speech to those same critics.

“I’m so proud to be a part of it, it’s like the best feeling I’ve ever had in basketball,” Popovich said in the locker room after winning gold. “And I just wanna say to all these people out there: How do you like us now, bitch?”

The US men’s team was filled with generational talent and some of the best players the NBA had to offer, but fans and critics were quick to dismiss the team when they seemed anything other than incredibly dominant. Team USA went 2-2 in the shows including a 0-2 start after a loss to Nigeria and Australia and the noise started.

“At first, you know, people talk about ‘Why is he on the team? He should have taken it. What happened to him? Why is he there?’ All the experts, all these people who think they know something, ”Popovich said. “And then we start to get kicked a —- after some practice and there he [criticism] come back.”

The Americans also lost their first game in Tokyo 83-76 against France, which was their first loss at the Olympics since 2004. But it was their last loss at the Tokyo Games and they avenged him in the game for the gold medal to beat France 87-82 to win gold for the fourth Olympics in a row.

Understandably, Popovich aimed at all skeptics as his team celebrated after winning gold again.
