Even with the Delta variant challenging many projects, the fall entertainment convention scene is seemingly upon us. Events like the New York Comic Con, Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Florida Supercon and many more are going full speed ahead and ReedPop, the company behind them, has issued health requirements to attend.

ReedPop has announced that for NYCC (which will be held in person in Manhattan October 7-10), all guests over 12 will be required to provide proof of covid-19 vaccination. For ECCC (in Seattle, Washington from December 2-5) and C2E2 (in Chicago, Illinois from December 10 to 12), all participants, regardless of age, will be required to show proof of vaccination or a recent test. negative covid. This is great news for people who wanted to attend a jerk in person but had some very valid security concerns.

However, there is a fourth Reedpop convention this fall, the Florida Supercon (September 10-12), and only face coverings will be required, no vaccinations. You might be wondering why ReedPop wouldn’t provide the same precautions as other events, but that’s not the company’s call. Rather, they are the guidelines set by the state. Local and state governments in New York City, Washington and Illinois are stricter on vaccinations, but Florida, which is seeing an increase in the number of covid cases, has made it extremely difficult to require someone that he proves he is vaccinated. Companies like Disney, for example, require salaried and non-union employees to be vaccinated now, but are unable to do the same for visitors to its theme parks (although Disney can likely lose its considerable weight if it does. he wanted it). Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive order against mask warrants also summoned some school districts to discuss going against the order after 5,599 students and 316 staff were either isolated, having tested positive for covid-19 , or in quarantine.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, ReedPop chairman Lance Fensterman said that in the case of one of the company’s other conventions, PAX West, the vaccination requirement was a good thing. We had a nice increase in ticket sales, he said. This tells us that people want that level of security and value that level of security. Which is certainly encouraging and the right attitude. And yet, the fact that face-to-face conventions are still being held in states where vaccinations not only will not, but cannot be, required seems like a failure for a company like ReedPop to step up and be a leader.

Basically, if you feel comfortable going to one of these conventions, just be sure to check out what each requires and doesn’t require.
