Bally Sports Detroit game analyst Jack Morris apologized to viewers in the ninth inning for his offensive comment earlier on the show as Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani made his way to the plate.
Tigers pitcher Joe Jiménez struck out Juan Lagares in the sixth inning, resulting in a two-out-and-a-second scenario as the two-way superstar headed for the bat. Tigers announcer Matt Shepard asked Morris, a four-time All-Star with Detroit, what strategy should be used against Ohtani.
The Hall of Famer replied, in a tone that mocked English-speaking Asians, “Be very, very careful.”
Morris put on a show in the ninth inning when Ohtani came back to bat. However, in apology, he stumbled, calling her “José” before correcting himself to say “Shohei”.
“This has been brought to my attention, and I sincerely apologize if I have offended anyone, especially anyone in the Asian community, for what I said about throwing and being careful. to Jose or Shohei Ohtani. I had no intention of doing anything offensive and I apologize if I did. I respect and have the utmost respect for this guy. “
