The lawyer for the 12 Igbohos associates, Pelumi Olajengbesi, distanced himself from a report, alleging that Judge Obiora Egwuatu traveled abroad in an attempt to escape signing of his clients’ release warrant.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that Judge Egwuatu admitted the 12 applicants on bail on August 4, following a complaint filed by their lawyer to uphold their human rights.

Eight of the detainees were released on bail amounting to N5 million each with two bonds of the same sum, while the other four were granted bail amounting to N10 million each with two bonds of the same amount. same sum, which must be federal officials.

Olajengbesi, who condemned the allegation against Judge Egwuatu, dissociated himself from this information.

We have received several calls and messages around the world trying to verify the veracity or not of certain media reports currently circulating on social media and media, especially outside the country, in relation to the subject here- above.

It has therefore become imperative for us to put in place this public notice in order to set the record straight.

The report that the Hon. The judge in charge of the case was kidnapped by unknown gunmen is not only false but condemnable because it is far from the truth.

The report that said Hon. The judge traveled out of town in an attempt to evade the signing of the applicants’ release warrant is also reprehensible and we do not want to be part of such reports.

Also be aware that when a judge is absent in such circumstances, any other Federal High Court judge can sign the release order and it is in progress, he said.

He said the process of finalizing the bail conditions for those detained was still underway in accordance with court rules and practice.

We are confident that the release order will be signed as soon as all the administrative bureaucracies are completed.

We therefore appeal to the general public to be patient with the process, Olajengbesi concluded.

Earlier, the chief clerk of the court, Mr. Emmanuel Gakko, also provided clarifications in a statement on Wednesday.

Gakko said that contrary to some media publications claim, Judge Egwuatu did not disappear but rather traveled on a national mission outside the country.

He said that although the court is on vacation, there are judges on the ground, including Judge Ahmed Mohammed, another judge on vacation. who could take care of the matter.

The 12 applicants, who had been in State Service Department (DSS) detention since July 2, were arrested on July 1 during a search of the home of Mr. Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, the agitator of the Yoruba nation, in Ibadan. (NAN)
