Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick comes under fire after blaming unvaccinated blacks and Democrats as the reason for the rise in COVID-19 cases.

Patrick was asked in a Fox News interview Thursday night about how Texas is handling the growing number of cases. He replied that most of the numbers are for the unvaccinated and Democrats like to blame Republicans for it. Well, the biggest group in most states is African Americans who haven’t been vaccinated.

Patrick went on to say: The last time I checked, over 90% of them voted Democrats in major cities and major counties, before saying it’s up to Democrats and Republicans to vaccinate people. He said Democrats were doing nothing for the African American community which has a significant number of unvaccinated people, and reiterated the Republicans’ position that residents have the individual right to receive the vaccine.

Patrick’s comments were immediately criticized, with Senator Borris Miles, a black Democrat from Houston, claiming for the second time in the past month that Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick had made inflammatory and inflammatory statements about Afro -Americans and that was unacceptable.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said Patrick’s statements were offensive and should not be ignored.

According to the Texas Tribune, the full vaccination rate for black Texans is 29%, lower than the rates for Asian, Hispanic and white Texans.

However, the largest group of unvaccinated people using raw numbers are whites: an estimated 5.6 million whites are eligible and unvaccinated, while that number is 1.9 million for blacks. It is estimated that 4.9 million Hispanics are not vaccinated.

In a statement Friday afternoon, Patrick responded to the criticism, saying Democratic social media trolls are behind schedule in distorting the facts and stoking the flames of their lies.
