Charlotte talks about social media reviews

Charlotte spoke to the LA Times’ Houston Mitchell to find out if she (and other female wrestlers) have to deal more with social media criticism of appearance than male wrestlers.

After taking a break from wrestling earlier this year, Charlotte noticed multiple criticisms on social media about her appearance. The Queen said she was hurt because of the work she put in to be in the best shape of her career.

Two things. So I was really hurt by the social media criticism when I came back because I came back in the best shape of my career, Charlotte recalls. Because I had lost 20 pounds, people assumed things. I made it a point to get back into the most incredible form of all time. And it was really the first time since 2015 that I was away for a significant period. In terms of social media, it’s a day-to-day thing.

I always have to remember that it’s easier to be negative than positive. It’s easier to hide behind a keyboard. And someone who belittles someone else for their physical appearance must already hate themselves to some extent. So you must feel sorry for them that they are doing this to themselves. This is the only way I can take care of it. I’m like, why are you in such a bad place to feel this way for me.

In terms of negativity, I choose my shots, I try not to respond, because they want the shout, the notoriety, they want the attention. It is so important not to have a negative life. Just rise above, wear that invisible crown, hold your chin up high, and don’t let the crown slip off.

Charlotte is set to face WWE RAW Women’s Champion Nikki ASH and Rhea Ripley in a Triple Threat match at SummerSlam tonight.
