Mets Lindor says Cohen is right to criticize the beatings – Morning Journal

LOS ANGELES Francisco Lindor said New York Mets first-year owner Steve Cohen was correct in criticizing his move in a tweet this week.

Cohen tweeted Wednesday of his struggling ball club that it’s hard to understand how professional hitters can be so unproductive. New York has lost seven of eight and ranks 27th in majors with 459 points despite a roster full of proven hitters.

Lindor was among the biggest disappointments, hitting .228 with 11 home runs and a .702 OPS in his debut season after being acquired from Cleveland and signed to a 10-year, $ 341 million contract.

We’ve had this message all year, Lindor told reporters ahead of a game against the Dodgers on Saturday. We haven’t really hit all year. I have not played. I did not do it. Bottom line, I didn’t do what I’m here to do when it comes to the offensive side.

Defense, they can’t talk to me. Baserunning, they can’t talk to me either. But offensively, yeah, criticize me. Say anything. You’re right. You are fine. I am with them. I have not played.

Manager Luis Rojas echoed those sentiments when asked if the team has been pushing since Cohens’ tweet.

Not at all. These guys work hard, Rojas said. I specified that the message was taken correctly. The message was to keep working hard and (stay) together. We have a lot of good hitters who haven’t been as good as they have been in the past and they are working hard to make it happen.

The message was, we have to be better. I don’t think they are in a hurry. I don’t think they are anxious because the message was from Steve. I think they took the message in the best possible way.

Lindor has been on the injured list with a right oblique strain since July 17 but could return as early as Sunday.
