JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Clara White Mission CEO JuCoby Pittman took the podium on Sunday to talk about recent resignations from nonprofits.

Five board members resigned from the nonprofit on Friday due to hiring issues and COVID-19 issues at the homeless shelter.

In emails obtained by Action News Jax, Pittman was accused of refusing to hire a chief operating officer and alleged lack of transparency during a COVID-19 outbreak, which included the death of the chief Keith Smith.

Pittman, who was recently hospitalized with COVID-19, defended herself to the prosecutor for the Clara White Mission Board, saying the allegations against her were false and damaging to the Clara White Mission.

This is defamatory to me, the board of directors. It is hurtful and detrimental to our financial support, she said.

Action News Jaxs Ben Ryan asked Pittman: is it more useful or hurtful to quit? Can you answer it in your own words? Pittman replied: No, I can’t.

The question was answered by board chair Diana Mason.

She’s very capable, and she should be here, Mason said. She has been here for 28 years and has been very helpful. She’s the one who used this mission and worked here and went from a budget of $ 200,000 to $ 3 million. So to this question, the answer is yes.

Although the emails claim there are several issues, Pittman said on the podium that Clara White’s mission remains strong and will continue to serve the community.

The board resignation letter obtained by Acton News Jax also claimed that Pittman had said she wanted a COO who looks like her.

I was not at the meeting. But from what I understood, Ms Pittman was looking for someone who had a charisma and community presence similar to what she has, Pittman’s lawyer replied.

Pittman said on the podium that there are no smoking mirrors at the Clara White mission and that he will always stand up for those who have no voice.

She said those who know her believe that if she had been released from the hospital it would not have happened.
