Hasan Piker, one of Twitch’s top political commentators, faces a wave of criticism after buying a house in West Hollywood, as his followers accuse the self-proclaimed “leftist” of being a hypocrite.

The 3,800-square-foot, five-bedroom, 5.5-bath home in the Beverly Grove neighborhood cost $ 2.74 million, according to real estate news site Dirt.

Piker’s Twitch channel, which goes by name HasanAbi, has racked up over 1.5 million subscribers since he started broadcasting in 2018. He has made a name for himself as one of the most popular pundits. of Twitch and in 2020 aired “Among Us” with New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio -Cortez.

Piker promoted socialist views and publicly supported Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who called himself a “democratic socialist” in his candidacy for the presidential primaries. In a 2020 interview with Mel Magazine, Piker responded in the affirmative when asked if he tries to “create the character of the hyper-masculine socialist” in his streams.

On August 13, Dirt announced that Piker had purchased the mansion in Los Angeles County. Four days later, he was picked up by conservative news site Breitbart, known for spreading right-wing disinformation. Creator Steve Bannon described the site in a 2016 interview with Mother Jones as “the platform for the alt-right.”

Social media users began to criticize Piker for the purchase, alleging that his purchase had put him at odds with the socialist movement. The streamer’s name started trending on Friday afternoon.

Over the weekend, tens of thousands of people tweeted about Piker’s house as memes flooded Twitter as well.

Piker tweeted about the situation on Friday, saying “everyone collectively needs to calm down” and calling the Los Angeles housing market “f —–“. Piker also posted a few memes about the situation, along with a tweet: “ONCE I HAVE DONE GET SET BY THE DIDEST TAKES, WE WILL GO BACK TO THE REAL NEWS.”
