According to a UNL spokesperson, the alleged assault occurred between a 17-year-old UNL student and a 19-year-old student. This happened at the house more commonly known as FIDJI late on Monday evening.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The UNLPD has released more details regarding the investigation into the sexual assault at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity’s home.

According to a UNL spokesperson, the alleged assault occurred between a 17-year-old UNL student and a 19-year-old student. The suspect is a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. However, his identity has not been disclosed and no charges have been filed. The UNLPD works with its legal representation.

According to the spokesperson, UNLPD agents intervened at around 3:40 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, at Bryan East Hospital.

The survivor told officers that she and an acquaintance traveled to the home together before the acquaintance left before the alleged assault. The victim then left FIDJI and asked an acquaintance to drive her to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing, according to a spokesperson for the UNL.

FIDJI was closed and suspended from all operations on Wednesday after thousands of students demonstrated outside the fraternity house on Tuesday evening. Students protested again Wednesday night calling for more change.

A petition to abolish the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house from the UNL campus on change.org has nearly 300,000 signatures.

UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green released a video statement on Thursday condemning all forms of sexual assault on campus.

“No means no.” Green said in the statement. “And if you break that, and we can prove it, you don’t belong on our campus.”

Channel 8 also requested an interview with UNLPD chief Hassan Ramzah, but he was not available on Friday.

This is not the first time that FIDJI has been in hot water with the university. The fraternity only recently had a suspension lifted last year for allegations of sexual harassment years before. The fraternity was previously suspended from 2017 to 2020 and was currently on probation at UNL. The university re-established Phi Gamma Delta in 2019.
