Kerala CM dismisses criticism of handling Covid

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday defended his government’s handling of the Covid situation on Friday and said no one had died in the state due to lack of oxygen during the deadly second wave of the pandemic .

If the Kerala model is wrong in Covid containment, then which model should we follow? No one had died in Kerala from lack of oxygen. No one has been deprived of medical aid or a medical bed, ”Vijayan wrote in the CPI (M) party magazine“ Chintha ”.

Vijayan has been under fire for several weeks now, with Kerala recording the highest number of cases in the country. In the past three days, the state has reported more than 30,000 cases, more than 60% of all reported cases in the country.

Kerala Pradesh congressional committee working chairman PT Thomas said on Thursday that Vijayan’s government had failed in the fight against the Covid pandemic.

Union Minister of State V Muraleedharan also criticized the state government, saying that the Vijayan administration was trying to use the pandemic for political ends.

The head of the BJP’s IT cell, Amit Malviya, also criticized the state government for its inability to deal with the situation.

Responding to criticism, Vijayan said some people try to overlook the facts and deliberately create confusion. There are unnecessary controversies surrounding the second wave. Some sections are trying to sow fear among people by presenting the high numbers of the second wave as a cause for concern, ”the chief minister said.

He further said that three serological surveys revealed that Kerala had the smallest percentage of the infected population. We did not waste a single drop of the vaccine and managed to inoculate additional doses, ”the chief minister said.

Vijayan said Kerala has the highest population density after major cities. “The most effective defense against the pandemic is full vaccination and it is the responsibility of the Center to ensure the availability of doses,” he said.

Kerala reported 32,801 cases today, up from 30,007 on Thursday. The test positivity rate also jumped to 19.22% from 18.03% on Tuesday.
