UTICA State Senator Joseph A. Griffo, R-47, Rome, acknowledged the administration of new Governor Kathy Hochuls with approximately 12,000 more deaths in the state from COVID-19 than this which was previously announced by the former administration of Andrew M. Cuomo.

In addition to his statement regarding transparency regarding the number of deaths from COVID-19, Griffos’ statement reiterates the criticism of lawmakers in the region of Dr Howard Zucker of the Health Commission of the ‘State. Griffo has repeatedly called on Zucker to step down since the pandemic began in March 2020.

I applaud the efforts of the new governors to increase transparency regarding the number of COVID-19-related deaths in New York State, the Griffos statement said, adding: Based on these recently released statistics, I believes that now, more than ever, Dr. Howard Zucker must resign or be removed from his post as Health Commissioner.

Dr Zucker was part of efforts by previous administrations to underestimate coronavirus deaths in New York City to ensure the public has a positive and supportive view of the former governor, the statement continued. Its mismanagement and lack of availability and communication with local elected officials and legislators are unacceptable.

It is time for Dr Zucker to step down, as I have been advocating since the start of the year, in order to facilitate a more open, accessible and smarter approach to dealing with the ongoing pandemic, the statement concludes.
