Daniella Pineda responds to criticism of Faye Valentine’s cast

Daniella Pineda, who plays Faye Valentine in the Netflix live-action adaptation of beloved cowboy Bebop anime, has a message for fans unhappy with her character’s wardrobe. These fans got their first glimpse of Pineda a Faye and the rest of the show’s cast, via the first Netflix photos released earlier this week. Some Cowboy Bebop fans have complained that Pineda’s look wasn’t close enough to the revealing and impractical red shirt, cleavage top, and cropped shorts that the animated version of the character wore. Pineda’s costume pays homage to the original through the choice of colors. Still, it’s more realistic, allowing the actual human wearing it the freedom to move around in ways that the costume designed for a cartoon character wouldn’t.

Pineda took to the internet to remind fans of the reality of bringing a once-two-dimensional (physically) character to life in live-action. She also notices how unrealistic the construction of Faye from the anime is in reality.

“First of all, I wanted to apologize to the fans for not anatomically fitting the character of Faye Valentine,” she said. “Six feet, double D size breasts, two inch waist. You know, they looked everywhere for this woman and they didn’t find her, it was kinda weird. So they just went with my little ass, I know, am I right? “

Continuing, she said of the costume design: “You know we tried, but doing stunts in tissue paper things just disappear, they get torn, sometimes just got lost… Whatever. either way, like I said, this original costume, they did a few of them, but like I said, they kind of crept into my various crevices, never to be salvaged again, so we had to build something something that can stand the test of time.

Some people online are trying to make it look like Pineda is insulting fans. Other fans stood up to defend the actress. You can see some examples below.
