Ex-NRL star Michael Jennings has hit back at allegations he hit a car in an alleged drunkenness incident, a court has heard.

Former NRL star Michael Jennings may have hit a car in an alleged bizarre and drunken incident because there was a spider in the vehicle, his lawyer has told a court.

Mr Jennings is being sued in NSW District Court by his former wife who accused him of abusing her throughout the relationship.

Kirra Michelle Wilden is seeking damages for bodily injury and alleged that he raped her “five or six times” and verbally assaulted her.

Mr Jennings has denied the allegations and has not been charged with any criminal offense by police.

The court had previously read an exchange of text between the two men on New Years Eve 2013 in which Ms Wilden described an incident in which she claimed Mr Jennings got drunk, hit a car, set fire to cars. hair on her legs and had launched a tirade laden with profanity at her.

“I’m done, I can’t stand it anymore,” said Ms Wilden in a text that was handed to the court.

“You were acting like a madman, hitting the car and burning the hairs on your legs.

” I do not support it. “

During his cross-examination, Mr. Jennings denied having a problem with alcohol, saying he would go through long periods of abstinence.

Mr Jennings’ attorney, Michelle Campbell, told the court on Monday in her final findings that there may be another explanation for the incident.

She pointed to the text messages the couple exchanged the night before, which mentioned a spider inside the car and Mr. Jennings was going to retrieve it.

“Are you saying the spider was the reason he hit the car?” Asked Judge David Wilson.

– It is possible, your honor; there is an alternative available, ”Ms. Campbell said.

“There is the following message that talks about hitting the car.

“There are messages the day before that talk about the complainant going to the car to get a spider, which offers an alternate explanation for the complainant hitting the car.”

Lawyers for Mr Jennings previously told the court Ms Wilden’s claims were not supported by portions of text messages that were read in court.

Lawyer Michelle Campbell argued that Ms Wilden claimed she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, but she made no reference to the alleged rapes in any of the texts.

Ms Campbell pointed to text messages sent immediately after the first alleged assault, which made no mention of any charges.

“It happened right after the first alleged assault. And she said nothing about the alleged assault, ”Ms. Campbell said.

“If she had to do it, now is the opportunity, if it had happened. The point is, she doesn’t bring it up… All the other text messages, not only does the Complainant complain about the Respondent’s conduct, she keeps complaining over and over again.

The former NSW and Australian center was suspended by the NRL in October after it tested positive for performance-enhancing substances Ibutamoren and Ligandrol.

He agreed in May to opt out of the last 18 months of his Parramatta Eels contract which was worth $ 400,000 per year.

The hearing before Justice Wilson continues.
