NRL football chief Graham Annesley defended the Bunker after an “avalanche” of hyperbolic criticism.
While willing to admit the Bunker was wrong – as he did when he said Henry Perenara made the wrong call not to fire Latrell Mitchell on Friday night – Annesley is tired of the exaggerated outrage at the with regard to arbitration.
“I’m perfectly fine if people say, ‘I don’t agree, I don’t think it was an essay.’ These are just a few of the descriptors around this stuff,” a- he declared.
“I’m not necessarily talking about the coaches or anyone in particular, but words are used like ‘ridiculous’ and ‘ridiculous.’ It’s just not fair. It’s so out of whack from what you actually see.
“That’s the whole point of these [weekly media] briefings – it’s really like, “Yeah, we got some things wrong.”

“And it’s also to say, ‘Well, maybe people bothered themselves a little bit in some cases’, and to put some balance back on it.”
After the controversial Roosters-Rabbitohs match, in which Mitchell was sentenced for a high shot on Joey Manu, Fox League specialist Michael Ennis called on Annesley to “step into the bunker”.
But Annesley said it was nowhere near that straightforward, as the complex role of video makers encompasses much more than advising the referee on the pitch on what course to take.

“They also monitor the audio, they talk to directors in some cases, they look at multiple vision streams, they ask operators to give them multiple streams,” Annesley said.
“It’s a specialized role and whether it’s me or someone else, you can’t just take someone off the street and drop them in that role.
“Because, A, the person you drop off there wouldn’t be qualified to do all of these tasks – wouldn’t know where to start.
“And, secondly, there’s no guarantee that no matter who you put in this position, they won’t make any errors in judgment either.
“There’s no one on the planet you could put in that role and say, ‘Well, that person will be making all the decisions in hindsight.’
The outcry over a pair of particular incidents, both in Sunday’s Sea Eagles-Bulldogs clash, angered Annesley.
The first was Canterbury striker Joe Stimson who was penalized for pulling the hair of Manly Martin Taupau’s henchman.

Bunker confirms trying Turbo despite incredible efforts by Hetherington
Annesley noted that five charges had been laid for pulling his hair out this season – although Stimson was not cited by the match review committee – and said it was an appeal obvious to whistleblower Chris Sutton.
“Judging by some of the comments that have been offered – and I’m not just talking about the [Bulldogs] club, but some of the general comments – you would have thought it was the most outrageous decision in the history of the game, ”Annesley said.

“The referee sees a player with a fistful of hair and he makes the immediate decision to respond to that. And that’s perfectly valid – there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s there for everyone to see. can see it. “
Annesley was also unhappy with some zealous comments that the Bunker overlooked a shot after Sea Eagles full-back Tom Trbojevic was awarded a tie-break.
However, Annesley was adamant Trbojevic maintained possession, moving from his right arm to his left arm before “effectively rolling the ball down his leg with his fingers on the ball” to bring it to the ground.
“It became publicly the worst decision ever made by a referee, or Bunker, in this case, to confirm this as a try,” he said.
“The reviews do not correspond to reality.

Catch Up: The Unmissable Moments Of Round 24
With one week to go to the final, Annesley is concerned that players are taking penalties in various situations.
“This is why we have to be careful not to change the policies during the race, for example, around any other type of offense where if a player appears to be injured we take stronger action than in a type of similar incident where a player stands up and plays the ball, “he said.
“You have to be careful not to set up a scenario that encourages trafficking, encourages players to stay down.
“Call it gambling, whatever you want to call it, but we’re still concerned about it and we’re still monitoring it.”
