OTTAWA – Conservative Party candidate in Dartmouth-Cole Harbor Troy Myers has agreed to withdraw his candidacy after the party learned of a serious allegation against him.
Myers posted a statement on Facebook on Monday saying the allegation is false, but he agreed to step down.
Last night false statements were made about me on social media. These claims about unwanted behavior and inappropriate contact are unequivocally false, he said.
A statement from the party’s national campaign headquarters said the party became aware of the allegation on Sunday evening and took the allegation of sexual misconduct seriously.
As we treat allegations of sexual misconduct with the seriousness they deserve, the Conservative Party has asked Mr. Myers to withdraw his candidacy, and he has accepted, the statement said.
On Sunday, a woman sent out a series of tweets detailing her interactions with Myers in 2019 at the Nova Scotia Library Association conference.
Myers said he had consulted legal counsel and would now focus his attention on combating defamatory statements.
I express my deep gratitude to my family who accompanied me throughout the day. It has been a difficult time for them. I intend to vigorously defend my reputation and the name of our family, he said.
