Ohio man calls NBC reporter in Mississippi. Mississippi mainstream media blames Governor Reeves Donald Trump. | Mississippi Politics and News

And the media are wondering why more and more people are suspicious of them.

It should never cease to amaze how the mainstream media, even in the Mississippi media establishment, seizes every possible opportunity to collectively criticize Mississippians and state leaders, even in times of peril, but then complain because no one trusts them, people question their work, and generally don’t like them unless you share their biases.

Take Monday’s incident when a white man in a white truck with Ohio license plates pulls up by the beach on Hwy 90 in Gulfport and rushes to an NBC News team reporting the impact of Hurricane Ida, shouting angrily, “You’re going to report this accurately, aren’t you? “

What can be heard from the audio indicates the man was aggressively heckling NBC reporter Shaquille Brewster and the NBC News crew to accurately report. Brewster is black. No racial or other comments can be heard. But as social media does, such claims were made in large part because, well, it happened in Mississippi.

Now, there is no doubt that this man is acting in a crazy and unbalanced way. He was visibly disturbed. The Gulfport Police Department asked the public to help identify the man shortly after this happened, and he was quickly identified. However, police did not release his name or officially state whether charges were pending at the time.

Y’all Politics learned from a source this morning that the man has been kicked out of a coastal hotel for his irrational and belligerent behavior. Everything indicates that he comes from Ohio. A source told Y’all Politics that the man in question could be charged with common assault, disorderly conduct and breaking the curfew.

Yet without having all the facts but armed with loads of hyperbole, the liberal mainstream media armed the incident and wasted no time in putting Mississippians in their sights. They have taken to social media and their own platforms to blame the man’s actions on the state’s conservative political ideology, Governor Tate Reeves’ recent exposure and the rejection of liberal media in Mississippi, and even former President Donald Trump’s refrain of “fake news.”

Here are two of the most egregious attempts to date to use the actions of an Ohio man as a justification to attack Mississippians, Republicans, Tate Reeves, and Donald Trump. There will likely be more, as social media trolls willingly perpetuate leftist narratives put forward by so-called “non-partisan” news outlets and their staff.

Adam Ganucheau from Mississippi today

Ganucheau is the editor of Mississippi Today. He and his outlet’s prejudice against the Tories, especially Governor Reeves, have recently come to a head. Ganucheau writes:

“This national embarrassment, unfortunately, is a product of the political climate that has been sown in Mississippi for months. Well soon find out more about what really motivated this man, but as I watched the rerun of the attack , it was difficult to separate it from recent comments by senior elected officials in Mississippis about the press.

“Gov. Tate Reeves has used his platform in recent weeks to antagonize reporters, to question the veracity of reporting on his response to the ultra-politicized COVID-19 pandemic, and to portray the press as the enemy of Republicans …

“… Crediting Reeves alone for this behavior does not reflect reality. Reeves, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, has picked up several chapters from the Trump playbook.

“I covered five Trump rallies in Mississippi. Each included a certain level of denigration of the press, including by the president himself. At a rally in Southaven in 2018, Trump sued a reporter by name. I sat down next to her, and the vitriol that was sent to her the rest of the night by dozens of rally attendees was just disgusting.

Seeing the video of @shaqbrewster docked today, it was hard not to dwell on the rhetoric on the press we recently heard from Governor Tate Reeves.

Ashton Pittman of the Mississippi Free Press

Pittman is the senior reporter for the Mississippi Free Press. Its outlet, like Mississippi Today, has a strong bias against conservatives and Republican leaders in the state. He posted this on Twitter:

I don’t know exactly why this guy was screaming. But the Trump-era culture of broad anti-media sentiment is real. Then you have Qanon, who is spreading a plot that everyone in the media meets Hollywood stars and Democratic politicians to collectively drink the blood of babies.
