Kozhikode: Parents and relatives of Sunisha (26) who was found dead at her husband’s home in Korome near Kannur on Sunday alleged that domestic violence forced her to take the extreme step. Sunisha was found hanged in the bathroom on Sunday night in a suspected suicide case. Sunisha and Vijeesh got married a year and a half ago. But, in a new development, audio clips of the alleged conversation between Sunisha and her husband, in which she is heard talking about the alleged domestic violence and harassment she must have suffered from her husband, have surfaced. In another audio clip, she is heard telling her brother Sudheesh to take her home, adding that she was unsure how long she would live if she stayed there. In one audio clip, Sunisha is even heard saying that her stepmother dragged her by the hair and kicked her. Her parents and relatives have claimed that although they lodged a complaint with the Payyannur police earlier this month, no case was recorded and she was sent back to her husband after talks with the two families. Sudheesh said that although they complained to police about domestic violence, the police failed to register cases or take effective action to prevent it. We complained on August 5 and 6 and the police summoned both parties. Sunisha herself told the police about the physical and mental torture she suffered at her husband’s home. But, the police did not give her due attention and sent her back to her husband’s home after they assured her that such incidents would not happen, another relative said. Meanwhile, Payyannur Police said they registered an unnatural death case under CrPC 174 and that the section will be changed if they find evidence of domestic violence or other factors leading to the death. When asked why a case had not been recorded on Sunisha’s mother’s earlier complaint about the harassment of her daughter, Payyannur’s inspector said the complaint did not mention any identifiable offenses against the Sunisha’s husband and mainly mentioned that her parents berated her.
