HALIFAX – The South Shore Public Libraries Board said Troy Myers, CEO and Chief Librarian, was put on administrative leave after the board was made aware of an allegation of sexual misconduct against him .
In a Facebook post, the board said the allegation was brought to its attention on Monday morning, adding that they take these types of situations “very seriously”.
“As such, the board immediately called an emergency meeting to review the allegation and consider its next steps,” the Facebook post read. “As this is a personal matter, there will be no further public comments at this time.”
On Monday, Conservative Party of Canada candidate in Dartmouth-Cole Harbor, Troy Myers, agreed to withdraw his candidacy after the party learned of a serious allegation against him.
Myers posted a statement on Facebook on Monday saying the allegation is false, but he agreed to step down.
Last night false statements were made about me on social media. These claims about unwanted behavior and inappropriate contact are unequivocally false, he said.
A statement from the party’s national campaign headquarters said the party became aware of the allegation on Sunday evening and took the allegation of sexual misconduct seriously.
As we treat allegations of sexual misconduct with the seriousness they deserve, the Conservative Party has asked Mr. Myers to withdraw his candidacy, and he has accepted, the statement said.
On Sunday, Lauren Skabar, who ran for the provincial NDP in the last Nova Scotia election, sent out a series of tweets detailing her interactions with Myers in 2019 at the Nova Scotia Library Association conference.
Skabar alleged that Myers commented on her little skirt, then put his hand on her skirt and into her underwear. She said she was mortified and heartbroken and seeing him appear in her timeline recently took her breath away.
Myers said he had consulted legal counsel and would now focus his attention on combating defamatory statements.
I express my deep gratitude to my family who accompanied me throughout the day. It has been a difficult time for them. I intend to vigorously defend my reputation and the name of our family, he said.
