Britney Spears will not face a criminal charge for a battery charge against her housekeeper after the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office found that there was insufficient evidence due to lack of injury to the housekeeper or significant damage to the phone.
Dist. Atty. Erik Nasarenko made the announcement on Wednesday after what he described as a close examination of the August 16 incident by the supervisor of the minor offenses unit.
The district attorney’s office said the incident resulted from an argument between Spears and the housekeeper over the care of the dog Spears. The housekeeper contacted MPs and filed a report accusing the pop star of slapping her phone.
The allegation came with Spears in the midst of an epic legal battle over his guardianship.
To her credit, the Ventura County Attorneys Office has now formally rejected the misdemeanor allegation against Britney Spears, which the Sheriff’s Department itself has admitted to be a very minor or even extremely minor incident, even as alleged, and it There was also no strike and obviously no injuries, Mathew Rosengart, the singer’s lawyer, said in a statement.
The housekeeper could not be reached for comment.
Rosengart called the flap nothing more than sensational tabloid fodder an exaggeration, he said, she said of a cell phone. If it involved Jane Doe rather than Britney Spears, it wouldn’t have been pursued or covered up at all.
He added: Anyone can lay a charge, but it should never have gone this far and we are glad the prosecutors office did the right thing. Sadly, it is obvious that some have learned nothing from the past, and we sincerely hope that the media and others will be more respectful of Ms. Spears in the future.
Earlier last month, Spears called 911 on August 10 to report a type of theft involving her dog, but changed her mind when law enforcement arrived at her home.
