Angelina Jolie has opened up about ex-husband Brad Pitt’s professional relationship with Harvey Weinstein, even after saying the disgraced film producer tried to assault him.
Jolie told The Guardian that Pitt continues to work with Weinstein and that it has become a sore point in his marriage to Pitt. “We fought over it. Of course it hurts, ”she told the publication. The incident in question occurred during the filming of his 1998 film, Playing by Heart, produced by a Weinstein executive. Jolie said she managed to “escape” Weinstein by supposedly trying to put her in a room on her own.
“If you walk out of the room you think he tried but didn’t, right?” The truth is that the attempt and the experience of the attempt is aggression, ”she said.
Jolie continued, “It was beyond a pass, it was something I had to escape. I stayed away and warned people about him. I remember him. telling Jonny my first husband who was great about it to spread the word to other guys – don’t let the girls go alone with him. I was asked to do The Aviator, but I say no because [Weinstein] was involved. I never partnered or worked with him again. It was difficult for me when Brad did it.
She added that Pitt continued to work with Weinstein into the 2000s, with The Weinstein Company helping release the Pitt Inglorious Basterds film. She also points out that Pitt asked Weinstein to help make the 2012 film Killing Them Softly, which was also distributed by The Weinstein Company. Jolie did not show up at any of the promotional events for the film with Pitt.
However, according to TMZ, insiders close to Pitt claim that he did not “partner” with Weinstein for Inglorious Basterds, but that The Weinstein Company ended up distributing the film, which was directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Weinstein’s assistant denied Jolie’s allegations, telling the store, “It’s very clear to me that this is for more sales on Angie’s book. There has never been an assault, and never an attempted assault. The statement continues: “This is brazenly bogus and clickbait advertising. You are Angelina Jolie, all the men and women in the world, I am sure, are interested in you. Are you being attacked by the whole world?
The new book Weinstein is referring to is titled Know Your Rights, which Jolie wrote with children’s lawyer Geraldine Van Bueren QC and Amnesty International. The Guardian describes him as “a guide for young people” and writes that the name derives from the song Clash, which Jolie tattooed on her back.
