Kerridge hit back after a scathing tweet from a wine connoisseur suggesting Marlow pub prices were steep.
To give a bit of context, the rib eye and fries cost 87, a side of cabbage is priced at 7.50, and the crème brûlée will cost you 26.50.
Guy Woodward tweeted his shock at the prices of his food, highlighting some of the things The Hand and Flowers claims to be online, such as “accessible” and “proper ad”.
He said: Website of [The Hand and Flowers] through [Tom Kerridge]- ‘unpretentious’, ‘own pub’, ‘for everyone’s pleasure’ ‘relaxed and accessible’.
Also [The Hand and Flowers] – steak and fries: 87; cabbage side: 7.50; crème brûlée: 26.50. And people are complaining about the increase in the wine list … “

However, Kerridge fired back at the critics, suggesting that there are extenuating circumstances and decent reasons why food is so expensive, particularly that he chooses to pay his staff a fair wage.
He tweeted: “These prices include everything, VAT and service. No additional service charges. Also, I pay the staff well and consider their work a professional career.
“Maybe the real cost of meals should be addressed. Unpretentiousness doesn’t mean cheap. Plus, why is profit a bad word? “

The argument continued further, with Woodward replying, “My problem isn’t with the prices – people are obviously happy to pay them.
“It’s marketing. 87 for steak and fries is not really a ‘no-frills and decent pub’ that is ‘accessible to everyone ….’.”
To this Kerridge replied: “You are [sic] the interpretation of accessible is different. We have a fixed lunch. “
This isn’t the first time Kerridge’s pricing has caused a stir.
In fact, according to The Mirror, one of Kerridge’s restaurants serves the UK’s “most expensive” fish and chips, at 32.50.

For that, you only get seven chips, sprinkled with herbs and accompanied by tartare, pea pudding and curry sauce.
If you’re lucky enough to eat at the five-star Corinthia Hotel in London, you can pick up this upscale take on the British classic.
Either way, it seems people are pretty willing to pay the prices, and if Kerridge pays his staff well, that’s certainly a good thing too.
