NATO doesn’t know who is to blame for Russian diplomat’s Afghan debacle – world

MOSCOW, September 6. / TASS /. NATO allies cannot determine who bears responsibility for the Afghan fiasco, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Monday.

“We have to understand who is to blame. They can’t. [US] State Department nods to Pentagon, Pentagon sends everyone back to State Department. The outgoing president says the former US president bears the blame, the previous one says the current administration is to blame. <…> Who do you think the NATO Secretary General has accused? The Afghan people and the Afghan president directly. As if it wasn’t NATO and the United States behind him, ”she said.

According to her, London points the finger at those who concluded the agreement with the Taliban (banned in Russia) in Doha, while the Taliban are described as “brothers” in Canada. “If NATO is a family, then Canada’s brother is the brother of all NATO members,” she concluded.

The Taliban launched a full-scale operation to regain control of Afghanistan after the United States announced the withdrawal of its military personnel from the country. On August 15, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani resigned and fled the country, and Taliban forces invaded Kabul without encountering resistance. The forces opposed to the Taliban regime put up a resistance, led by Ahmad Massoud, in the province of Panjshir. Saleh, who declared himself an “interim president,” urged the country to support him.
