FIA race director Michael Masi has revealed that there have been no changes to the race procedure for F1’s second “sprint” test at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.
After the inaugural testing at Silverstone has been generally received positively, F1 will qualify again on Friday before running a 100km “sprint” on Saturday to determine the grid for Sunday’s grand prix at Monza.

When asked if there had been any procedural changes prior to the weekend, Masi replied, “No change.
“We all had a great discussion after the first event at Silverstone, the FIA, F1 and the teams, and we all agreed that we would do the same at Monza from a regulatory perspective.
“Yes, there will be additional activities for F1 that will take place separately, but from a racing point of view, we will do everything the same and then we will sit down behind Monza and see if we need to bring any more. ‘other adjustments for the third event, wherever. will be. ”
FIA seeks to ‘fine tune’ sprint rules
One criticism of the inaugural sprint weekend was that the fastest qualifier on Friday was not statistically awarded pole position.
With a third test slated for later in the season, the FIA and F1 are aware that a sample of different races needs to be taken in order to refine the format instead of gutting reactions.
“There are a few procedural elements that we would definitely look at and as we said, this is not a sample of one,” Masi explained.
“It’s ‘let’s do it twice and understand better’ and everyone is on exactly the same wavelength – ten teams, FIA, F1 are all completely on the same wavelength. more minor, nothing big.
“The Parc Fermé procedures, the tasks of the FIA team were huge. Looking at all the different elements, but it wouldn’t be… nothing that we discussed is basically it’s refinement. “
