Ja’Marr Chase blames preseason drops on scratch-free NFL ball

Bengals rookie Ja’Marr Chase gives an interesting explanation for his preseason mistakes … saying he dropped so many passes because NFL balls don’t have white stripes.

It’s safe to say the ex-LSU star stumbled to start his professional career… dropping a revealing amount of assists after barely struggling in college.

Chase – who missed the 2020 NCAA season to prepare for the draft – has opened up about his struggles this week … and although he says he’s not looking for any excuse for his performance, he explains the differences he’s had to face. face so far. as a pro.

“I don’t want to blame myself for sitting on my butt all year round, but that probably has something to do with it, of course,” the No.5 draft pick told Bengals.com.

“There is a bigger ball fit so I don’t want to apologize but I just have to be a pro and catch up.”

Chase describes other differences with the NFL ball that could impact his game – the white stripes.

“The ball is different because it is bigger,” he added. “There are no white stripes on the side so you can’t see the ball coming from the point.

“So you actually have to look for the strings on the ball at the top, which is hard to see because the whole ball is brown and you have the six strings that are white.”

“But, for the most part, you just have to get used to it and find out what I’m comfortable with catching.”

Chase also says he needs to do a better job focusing on the ball… and worked overtime after practice to sort out his issues.

We’re sure there are a ton of fantasy owners out there hoping this happens sooner rather than later.
