With a streak stalled at 2-1 in favor of the visitors, the fifth and final India-England test at Old Trafford, Manchester, promised to be the culmination of a barely contested streak. However, and as fate willed it, the test was canceled hours before the scheduled draw due to fear of Covid-19 in the Indian camp. Several experts weighed in on the situation and the latest to join the movement is Aakash Chopra.
Many cricketers and pundits blamed the Indian camp, citing that the resumption of IPL 14 led to the test being canceled instead of postponing it to a later date. While speaking on his YouTube channel, former Indian opener Chopra hit back at such claims, citing examples of England’s decision-making in the past.

“You have to look a little inward. You came back from South Africa, there was no positive case in your contingent. Sri Lanka – you went back. You went home from other countries in one twist. So why so suddenly desensitization to Covid? ” said Chopra.
Addressing the difference of opinion between the BCCI and the ECB, Chopra noted:
“The Indian board believes this is a Covid-related cancellation, obviously, as the cases are increasing one after the other. Even though our players have tested negative today and yesterday, they could be positive in the next few days. “
“England believe the tour had twenty players, all of them went negative in two tests, there is no case there, so why do you consider this a cancellation from Covid.”
The cricketer-turned-commentator then went on to present his take on the matter, saying the Covid issues are damaging the mental health of players and that these are “extraordinary circumstances”.
“My point is that these are extraordinary circumstances. You must and must consider this a cancellation of Covid, for the simple reason that you may not have Covid now but is detected afterwards. three or four days, or your neighbor gets it, then you’re not in the right frame of mind. It’s not that Covid hasn’t happened and you’re thinking about ways to get off the show . “
