Letter to the Editor: Criticizes Nemitz, Vaccine Encourages Two Maines to Divide

[ad_1]

After reading the Sept. 5 rant from Swanville resident Peter Petersen (Letter to the editor: COVID vaccine is useless, and Nemitz should know it), targeting columnist Bill Nemitz and common sense in getting a COVID vaccine- 19, I feel compelled to respond.

First of all, I find Israeli statistics on COVID suspicious. Nor do I trust the right-wing diatribes of the 2nd District on the pointlessness of vaccinations.

However, I take offense to having been reprimanded by someone in northern Maine who deems it necessary to despise the people and the state’s business center by calling it “northern Massachusetts” as if it was. was a bad thing.

Mr. Petersen should consider that Maine grew from the south to the top. Portland, established in 1632, led this growth, and today the Portland metropolitan area’s population of about 538,000 makes up almost half of Maine’s population. Additionally, approximately 50% of Maine’s GDP is generated by the metropolitan area which includes its largest city.

Perhaps Swanville (established in 1774) and residents of northern Maine like Mr. Petersen should begin to see southern Maine as the original and real Maine, and themselves as southern Canadians.
