Calcutta, September 12 (IANS): In a major embarrassment, a full page advertisement published in an English national daily newspaper showcasing the industrialization and development of Uttar Pradesh under UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth featured a photograph of the flyover from Maa to Calcutta. The advertisement drew sharp criticism from several senior ministers and congressional leaders in Trinamool, accusing Adityanath of “stealing footage from scenes of infrastructure in Bengal”. The English daily later admitted responsibility for the fault.
“Transforming UP for @myogiadityanath means stealing images of infrastructure seen in Bengal under the direction of @MamataOfficial and using them as his own! Looks like the“ DUAL ENGINE MODEL ”has failed miserably in the strongest state of the world. BJP and is now EXPOSED for all! ”TMC tweeted General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
The tweet was immediately followed by Mukul Roy who recently joined TMC from BJP. “Mr. @narendramodi is so powerless to save his party that in addition to changing CMs, he has also had to resort to growth and infrastructure images seen under @MamataOfficial’s leadership, like his own,” retweeted Roy.
There were several others including State Transport Minister Firhad Hakim, Trade and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee and MP Mahua Moitra who joined the choir. “Previously, the BJP used photos of breaches of law and order in their states to spread disinformation about West Bengal. Now they are using photos of the flyover built under #MamataBanerjee and under the chairmanship of KMDA to advertise “development” in UP, ”Hakim said.
“Thuggy Yogi in his UP commercials with the flyover of MAA Kolkata, our JW Marriott and our iconic yellow taxis! Change your soul or at least your Gudduji ad agency! … PS I look forward to the FIR against me at Noida now, ”Moitra wrote.
“Still Ajay Bisht can’t help but use #BengalModel photos for his own publicity … Slow applause!” Chatterjee tweeted.
The “Transforming Uttar Pradesh Under Yogi Adityanath” ad that aired in an English-language publication on Sunday has a cutout of Mr. Adityanath with a flyover that looks like “Maa flyover” from Kolkata that connects the central part of the city to Salt Lake and Rajarhat located in the northeastern fringes of the city. The image also shows Kolkata’s iconic yellow taxi and a skyscraper that looks like a five-star city hotel next to the Maa Flyover.
The English daily, however, issued a statement later today admitting that the fault lies with the newspapers’ marketing and infomercial team. The statement read: “A bad image was inadvertently included in the cover collage for the Uttar Pradesh editorial produced by the newspaper’s marketing department. The error is deeply regretted and the image has been deleted in all of them. digital editions of the newspaper “.
