German football player Dennis Erdmann was found guilty of racially abusing opposing players in a third division match and was banned for eight weeks after a disciplinary hearing.

The Magdeburg players accused Erdmann of using racist slurs when he played against them for Saarbrücken last month.

The (German Football Association) does not tolerate any form of racism and discrimination on its grounds and is sending a clear message here, said Stephan Oberholz, who chaired the hearing.

A severe sanction therefore had to be imposed.

Erdmann has already missed two games when he was provisionally suspended ahead of the hearing. This period of provisional suspension will be deducted from its sanction.

The 30-year-old defender has denied any wrongdoing and Saarbrücken said the club will appeal the verdict.
