INAUGURING TWO defense office complexes in New Delhi on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed critics of the Central Vista redevelopment project, saying they had remained silent on the complexes built to accommodate 7,000 officers and staff of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces because that would have “exposed” their “myths and lies”.
The people who attacked Project Central Vista very smartly and cleverly wouldn’t say that this too was part of Project Central Vista, that a facility for over 7,000 army officers was going to come into being, because they knew that a once this became public, their plan to spread myths and lies would be exposed, ”Prime Minister Modi said.
The two complexes, on Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Africa Avenue in the capital, were built at a cost of Rs 775 crore and will have a combined office space of 9.6 lakh sqft.
Calling the complexes a major and significant step towards the development of a modern defense enclave in the capital, the Prime Minister said: “Today the country is watching what we are doing with Central Vista. The opposition, including Congress, attacked the government over the Central Vista project, calling it a “criminal waste” of resources and urging the government to embezzle money to fight the Covid pandemic.
In June, the Supreme Court refused to interfere with an order from the Delhi High Court that dismissed a petition requesting a suspension of construction on the Central Vista project amid the pandemic. Considering that the Central Vista project was “of national importance”, the High Court had qualified the plea as reasoned.
The Prime Minister also launched a new website for the Central Vista project. The website, Centralvista.gov.in, has details on the projects that are part of the redevelopment, in addition to a dashboard for “jobs generated”, active and upcoming projects and a section on myths and the realities. It also contains information on the new Parliament building under construction, Central Vista Avenue, the Joint Central Secretariat, the National Museum, the National Archives and IGNCA.
During his speech at the inauguration of the defense complexes, the Prime Minister invoked the security forces and declared that upon coming to power in 2014, he had decided to make the National War Memorial for “these brave men.” soldiers who protect the dignity and pride of the country. , who live and fight for the country, those who martyred for the nation, adding that what should have been done immediately after independence only started after 2014.
After completing the work on the memorial, we started with the Central Vista project to improve the offices. We first remembered our brave soldiers and martyrs, he said.
Regarding the idea behind the project, the Prime Minister said that a capital is not just a city, but is a symbol of the ideas, promises, capabilities and culture of the country. India is the mother of democracy, that is why the capital of India should be such that people should be the center. Today, when we focus on the ease of living and the ease of doing business, the role of modern infrastructure has an equally important role.
Stating that most of the construction works in the capital were completed before the deadline, he said, I am sure that the new Parliament building will be completed on time.
Calling the new defense complexes a reflection of another shift in working culture and government priorities – the correct use of available land, he said the buildings would strengthen our efforts to make the work of our military more practical. and more efficient.
The complex on KG Marg will consist of three blocks, housing 14 offices in a 4.52 lakh square foot space. The Africa Avenue complex, with a total area of 5.08 lakh square feet, will receive 13 new offices. The two complexes together have parking space for 1,500 cars.
