PARIS (AFP) – French rugby union player Ludovic Radosavljevic was suspended for 26 weeks on Thursday September 16 for racist abuse against a Cameroonian player in the ProD2 second division.
The 32-year-old Provence Rugby player has admitted to abusing Cameroonian Nevers winger Christian Ambadiang and will not be able to play until April 25, 2022.
Ambadiang said he was called a “banana eater” when his team lost to Aix-en-Provence earlier this month.
Scrum-half Ludovic Radosavljevic, who spent 12 years in the Top 14 with Clermont and Castres, apologized for using this terminology.
Ambadiang, 22, who is in his second season in ProD2, France’s level below the Top 14, after joining the academy of the Western Province in South Africa, has received support from the rugby world.
The body which directs professional rugby in France, the LNR, declared “given the particular gravity” of the abuses, its disciplinary commission “set the entry point for the offense at 52 weeks, the maximum sanction authorized “.
This deadline was reduced to 26 weeks after Radosavljevic “admitted the facts of which he is accused (…) the admission of his guilt, his clean criminal record and the expression of his remorse before the hearing”.
