TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – A student allegedly subjected to allegations of sexual assault and harassment was at the center of a protest on the Topeka Wests campus on Friday.

Several students told NEWS 13 that a student at the school sexually assaulted and harassed girls.

These students claim that the administration did nothing, even after the girls reported it.

A district spokesperson said Topeka West recently learned of an incident that happened over the summer, but it did not happen at school.

The official said no report had been made to the administration.

Students told 13 NEWS that the student in question was still educated in the building.

I have siblings who always go here and that’s why I’m here today, said 2020 graduate Malissa Newcome-Bidwell.

It makes me uncomfortable that there is someone who has not one but several rape allegations against him right now and I have a sister on campus and I mean, if not. is not her, it is someone else and that does not suit me.

Officials at Topeka public schools did not answer questions on camera, but said anyone who poses a safety concern to themselves or others will be treated appropriately.

Newcome-Bidwell said she hoped the community’s concerns could encourage the district to take action.

It’s a cycle, it’s probably been going on for hundreds of years, and unfortunately education is no exception to that, she said.

I’m really glad they start talking now because hopefully we can enforce more rules and a district wide crackdown, there is a lot of unrest on campus right now, especially with everyone additional police officers and additional student resource officers, tensions feel really high, a lot of children feel insecure.
