Coaches deserve to be blamed

Ranking the Jets after their 25-6 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.

Offense

When you’ve got four turnovers and no touchdowns it’s hard to avoid an F, but I’m going to be nice because they handled the ball well. QB Zach Wilson (19 of 33, 210 yards, 4 INT, 37.0 odds) had a disastrous day. The offensive line played better than last week and the Jets ran for 152 yards. Rookie Michael Carter (11 races, 59 yards) has shown promise. The Patriots knocked out WR Corey Davis (2 catches, 8 yards).

Defense

The defense played pretty well considering they were on the pitch so early in the game. The unit held New England to 260 total yards. The Patriots QB Mac Jones (22 of 30, 186 yards, 89.0 points) didn’t beat the Jets in depth, but threw a lot of short tricks. The Jets have sacked Jones three times. LB CJ Mosley played very well, registering 10 tackles and one pass defended. Damien Harris’ 26-yard touchdown tackle was embarrassing.

Robert Saleh sidelined in the Jets’ loss to the Patriots. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post

Matt Amendola went 2-for-3 on his placement tries. New kicker Thomas Morstead only had to kick once and it was a strong for 45 yards. The Jets’ cover crews didn’t have a lot of work. Braxton Berrios had a 38 yard kickoff return.

framing

The Jets fell prone in this one and the coaching staff are to be blamed. Wilson threw the interceptions on his own, but Mike LaFleur is the voice in his ear and needed to calm him down. The defensive plan was solid. They didn’t allow Jones to make big plays. Robert Saleh decided to score a basket with six minutes left to reduce the score to two points by 19. I understand the math, but I think sending a message to your team is more important there. Dark.
