Criticism of the anti-vax demonstration in front of the home of Tnaiste Leo Varadkar

Politicians from various parties criticized an anti-vaccine protest held at Tnaiste Leo Varadkar’s home yesterday afternoon.

Video of the incident shows around 25 people present at the protest with several signs displaying fake anti-vaccine messages.

Another video showed homophobic slurs about Varadkar by an individual recording the scene.

The two clips show that a sign was affixed to the door of a residential property at the scene of the protest.

Several guards were present at the scene of the incident.

An Garda Sochna said in a statement:

Garda was alerted to a number of protesters outside a residence in Dublin 8 on Sunday September 19, 2021 at around 1 p.m. Garda attended and the protest ended without incident.

Last week, a similar anti-vaccine protest took place outside the home of Health Minister Stephen Donnelly, with one of those involved later saying in a video that every politician is visiting us.

Politicians from the government and opposition parties criticized yesterday’s protest at Varadkars’ house.

Sick, repulsive and disgusting behavior outside of @LeoVaradkar and Matt’s home. It has no place in a democracy, must be condemned by all and called for what it is. Efforts to dehumanize politicians contribute to this. Vile on so many levels

Fine Gael Minister Simon Harris, whose own home was picketed by another group of protesters several years ago, said yesterday’s protest was sickening, repulsive and disgusting.

Sinn Fins Mary Lou McDonald TD said: The homophobic and fanatic bullying seen at Leo Varadkar’s home today is outrageous and shameful. The guilty must answer for their actions.

TD Social Democrats Gary Gannon said: What happened outside Leo Varadkars’ house today was just vile. Blatant homophobia has no place in our Republic and must be fought wherever it occurs.
