The Green Bay Packers scored 21 unanswered points in the second half of Monday night’s game to rebound and beat the Detroit Lions 35-17.
“I think maybe we tried to show we care a little more tonight,” Aaron Rodgers said after the game, referring to the Packers’ 38-3 loss in Week 1 and the critics that followed. “… I just think people like to say a lot of bullshit, and it’s nice to come back here after a game like this.
I think there are even more of them now than when I started playing. There are so many overreactions that happen from week to week. So it’s good to go out, have a good performance and get rid of the trolls for at least a week.
Down 17-14 early in the third quarter, the Packers scored touchdowns on their next three possessions. Running back Aaron Jones scored two, connecting to Rodgers on an 11-yard pass for his third rushing score.
The Lions’ disastrous third quarter ended with quarterback Jared Goff fumbling over the Detroit 25-yard line and Krys Barnes of Green Bay recovering the ball. The Packers’ five-game practice that followed saw Jones add a rushed touchdown.
Jones tied his career high in a game with four touchdowns, finishing with six receptions and 48 receiving yards. He also had 17 carries and 67 rushing yards.
After a season opener loss to the Saints, Rodgers looked like he always was. The veteran QB went 22 for 27 and threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns.
The Lions took the lead when Goff joined Quintez Cephus on a 5-yard touchdown pass in their first possession. Detroit added another touchdown and a field goal to take their lead in the first half, but the team failed to score in the second half.
