Monrovia The National Council of Civil Society of Liberia (NCSCL) appealed to Solicitor General Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephas to respond to allegations linking him to ritual killings and to explain his relationship with Ellen Corkrum.

About two weeks ago, a damaging audio capturing a conversation between Cllr. Cephus and Madame Corkrum have gone viral on the internet and several radio stations in Liberia.

The Solicitor General of Liberia was overheard having a conversation with Ms. Corkrum in which she asked him if she could transfer USD 4,000 to him at the request of Ofori Diah to perform a ritual sacrifice on her behalf.

Ms. Conkrum also mentioned that Cllr. Cephus, who was allegedly behind the dropping of a corruption case against her, is aware of the ritual sacrifice and was involved in such a practice.

The NCSCL has said it believes the integrity, legal independence and judicial judgment of the Solicitor General of Liberia to be crucial; and strongly argue that the solicitor general’s silence is a matter of concern. He added that his continued role in the administration of justice in Liberia amid a myriad of allegations against him further undermines the public image of justice and fuels a negative public perception of the law. government passivity in the fight against corruption.

The Council urges Cllr. Cephus to respond to allegations concerning him, in particular regarding the ritual call and to explain his relationship with Ms Ellen Corkrum in light of the allegations that he was the instigator of the dropping of a corruption case against Ms Corkrum , the NCSCL said in a statement issued by its President, Loretta Alethea Pope-Kai.

Cllr. Cephus, for the integrity of the Liberian justice system, please respond urgently to the allegations against you!

The Council also calls on President George Weah to train and empower the Liberian security forces to apply the law to the letter and to bring the growing situation of ritual killings under control.

In the statement, the Council said: This alarming situation extends to two serious concerns: ritual appeal and corruption, both of which seriously demand the attention of the National Council of Civil Society of Liberia. In view of this, the Board asks Cllr. Saymah Serina Cyphus to respond immediately to the allegation regarding his involvement in ritual killings and also to explain his relationship with Ms Ellen Corkrum in light of the allegation that he was behind the abandonment of a corruption case against Ms Corkrum.

Council noted that the position of Solicitor General is not a marginal position and Cllr’s continued silence. Cephus in the midst of these serious allegations against him is very visible; adding that news on Cllr. Cephus ‘alleged involvement in ritual killings has created negative public sentiment, cast an ugly stereotype on the justice system, and threatens to undermine Liberians’ confidence in the government’s ability to ensure peace and security for citizens and residents of the country.

The group further noted that therefore the news of Cllr. Cephus’ alleged involvement in the ritual call is spreading in Liberia at a time when worrying patterns of ritual killings are believed to be taking place in the country; noting that although the ritual appeal is not easily proven in a court of law in Liberia, it is evident that such a dreaded practice exists and undermines the peace and security of the country.

In addition, the Council stated that there was “a need for the Solicitor General to explain the nature of his relationship with Ms. Ellen Corkrum in light of the corruption case mentioned above. Without a response, the impression is that the Solicitor General is in conflict and compromise, the council said.
