SOMERSET COUNTY (KDKA) – Somerset County District Attorney is charged with sexual assault and lawyer Jeffrey Thomas has spoken exclusively to KDKA and he says there shouldn’t be any rush for a judgement.

“Jeffrey is an innocent person, and I remind everyone of that,” said Ryan Tutera, the attorney representing Thomas. “I’m sure he’s surprised. I’m sure he’s shocked. I am surprised. I’m shocked, but we can’t wait to spend our day in court and fight these accusations. “

Thomas began serving as Somerset District Attorney last year.

Now he faces charges of rape and other assault charges.

However, Thomas and his lawyer claim that these are allegations and deny that there is any truth behind them.

“At the moment, all we are dealing with is a simple allegation from an accuser who may have some reason to bring these charges,” Tutera said. “We do not know.”

According to the criminal complaint, the victim knew Thomas through his employer, and for years he made advances to her and she refused.

Then on September 18, Thomas messaged her via Snapchat saying he was coming and she said no.

He still came and entered her house uninvited.

The victim then asked Thomas to leave, and then the two got into a fight.

According to the police, that’s when he took over and raped her.

All of this happened while the victim’s daughter was inside the house.

“We’re going to get to the bottom of this,” Tutera said. “To the public – treat them fairly, fairly. He is still the district attorney, at this point, for Somerset County. ”

The director of the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association made the following statement:

“No one is above the law. The allegations described today in Somerset County disturb us deeply. Everyone involved in the criminal justice system has a legal and ethical obligation to obey the law and to conduct themselves. with the utmost integrity – no one more than the district attorney. Failure of any individual to act lawfully or in accordance with their ethical obligations is wholly unacceptable. “

“Jeffrey worked tirelessly for victims, he fought for the rights of victims,” Tutera said. “So I think before anyone draws any conclusions it’s too early to say they are guilty of anything.”

Tutera says he expects his client to be released from prison on Thursday.
