You know, when Celtic is in the quagmire, some pundits are just anxious to get the hang of the manager and the club.
Andy Walker and Kris Boyd are two prime examples.
Another is Charlie Nicholas.
I really can’t remember the last time Nicholas had something positive to say about the club. Not only when they win, but he seems to like to kick in especially when the chips are low.
No support. No encouragement. Nothing but negative and defeatism.
In his column today, Nicholas made a statement (well, he made a few) about Angel Postecoglou smelling sheer laziness in an attempt to fill the thumbs of the spine.
First, he accuses Ange of not realizing the size of the club before taking the job. We’re talking about a manager with over 20 years of experience in the game. A former international manager who signed Scottish league players, including Celtic’s Tom Rogic, for the Socceroos.
Ange knows the size of the club very well. To pretend he doesn’t is just a stupid attempt to downplay human knowledge of the game.
Nicholas, in his column in The Express, went on to say, “Angel Postecoglou seems to me to be the new Ronny Deila.
“I’m not sure Postecoglou realized how important Celtic really is before he arrived.
“Ronny walked in and thought, ‘I’m going to get the players back in shape.
“People are touting him as the next Tony Mowbray. In Tony’s defense he was told that before he took over from the Celtic there were funds but they were never produced.
Tony was then left exposed and what followed was Neil Lennon’s first spell at the club.
“I’m not saying Angel is on display, but he’s not making the most of things.
“I think it’s a huge week for Celtic and if they don’t get results Ange won’t be sacked but the pressure will increase on the board.
“This is the most important week in the last 10 years or more.”
And the manager’s character assassination is complete.
Take two of the most ridiculed managers in recent Celtic history and place them next to the current Celtic manager.
Why not offer solutions? Why not offer constructive criticism?
Because Charlie himself has no idea how to do it.
He has made a very good living by speaking negatively about the London club for twenty years.
He probably couldn’t point you in the right direction to the stadium if he was standing on Kerrydale Street.
