The 49ers did not lose the game because of a specific person or training or even a managerial decision. But, if you were to scour social media or ask fans, you’d think San Francisco just got blown up by the San Jose State Spartans.
The 49ers’ success rate in the air was 52%, with 42% of those games turning into first tries. On the third and fourth drops, that success rate rose to 69%. The problem arose on the first and second trials, where San Francisco had negative EPA both on the ground and in the air.
To claim that the 49ers haven’t done anything right on offense makes no sense, including Jimmy Garoppolo. There were chess matches and wrinkles which were new that each team used during the match.
In the video below, I explain the Packers’ defensive adjustments that caused problems for the 49ers in both coverage and ground. Also, just because it’s a loss doesn’t mean we should just focus on bad games. There were too many good guys in this game to leave them out.
Covered rooms:
A missed sight adjustment from Deebo Samuel that forced the 49ers to punt where Jimmy G is likely blamed by the casual observer. A counter-play with Deebo as the main blocker, George Kittle as the ball carrier and Brandon Aiyuk blocking his buttocks. (On this game, I misspoke and said Trent Williams is responsible for the C-gap player. I meant the B-gap player.) The problem this creates for your passing attack when you don’t not throw the ball deep Trey Sermons 16-yard carry Why treat> results for Jimmy Why Deebo gets a red zone carry over is bad news for Sermon Jimmy Gs’ touchdown throw at Aiyuk and throw with great anticipation Garoppolo taking a sacking and missing his control route The last ride from Shanahans which ended up being an easy throw and catch at Kyle Juszczyk Why timing is everything in this offense Dagger concept A concept that floods the Packers area coverage with three verticals One penny to Deebo which was incomplete Hospital bullets The last game is why it will be difficult for Shanahan to leave Garoppolo
The pass from the offensive line protected well, but there was no push to the ground. There were a few reps where Alex Mack was embarrassed. San Francisco struggled with the Packers putting a nose tackle on Mack, which in turn injured Daniel Brunskill and Mike McGlinchey.
Inconsistencies at every level hurt the team on Sunday.
