AFL legends Matthew Lloyd and Kane Cornes delivered a brutal assessment of Blue Sam Petrevski-Seton.
The West Australian has requested a trade with the Eagles after a 2021 season indifferent to the Blues.
Moved to a new half-back role, Petrevski-Seton has played 13 AFL games and has been repeatedly fired at the VFL.
Former Carlton roster boss Stephen Silvagni, who drafted the 23-year-old at the club, said he was not the top flight in terms of preparation, having yet to live up to his potential since being picked with No. 6 in the 2016 National Draft.

And speaking on AFL Trade Radio, Lloyd suggested that Petrevski-Seton wouldn’t be a huge loss to the Blues.
I wouldn’t be too confused if I were Carlton, to be honest, he told AFL Trade Radio.
This is another one that I saw as a junior. Everything he did was fine, but he didn’t leave his area often. He worked in a 50-60m radius, as you watch Sam Walsh and him run 150-200m.
Lloyd said he understands why Petrevski-Seton has been moved in defense, feeling he hasn’t played with the same urgency as the games’ elite forwards when used on offense.
He also asked how Petrevski-Seton would fare against star midfielders.
(Silvagni) said he’s an advanced midfielder, I watch forwards and you watch the way (Cody) Weightman plays, (Kysaiah) Pickett plays, Tom Papley plays, they’re just dynamic, working forwards hard, he said.
Then you look at the midfielders. Can you imagine Petrevski-Seton taking on (Christian) Petracca and (Clayton) Oliver?
Maybe he was a bit disturbed, but I can see why they set him up on a half-flank because… it’s kind of the easiest position to play.
I don’t think he competes hard enough and I don’t think he looks as fit as some of the AFL players have been.
So I can understand why he is leaving the club and he is looking for bigger opportunities. But unless he changes, from what I can see from a distance, I don’t think that will change regardless of which club he goes to. I don’t see any urgency.

Cornes believes Petrevski-Seton is not responsible enough, a trait he noted that all players must have, regardless of their opposition.
He doesn’t defend, he says. He didn’t want to defend and you can’t get away with it.
Whether you play as a striker, midfielder, or defender, if you don’t defend, you won’t survive in the game.
I can absolutely see why David Teague and Carlton were frustrated with him.
A lot of Carlton fans were saying that we used a top ten pick to get him and played him out of position, maybe out of desperation because they sat him down and said that was it. which we needed from you and refused to deliver this. So you try to hide it in different areas.
He gave up certain times this year when the opposition had football.
Despite his criticism, Cornes believes Petrevski-Seton has an edge and, as such, would be a good pickup for the West Coast.
He’s 23 and I definitely wouldn’t give him up and I think it’s a really good move for the west coast as they don’t have anyone in that age range between 30 and the age he is, has he declared.
It’s well worth it and it’s not going to cost a lot to have it, but I think Carlton needs a complete reset with club soccer culture and if players don’t want to buy when they don’t. soccer, they’re probably better off being at another club.
