TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Ken Leslie, founder of 1Matters and Veterans Matter, has announced that he is stepping down from his post amid allegations of sexual harassment.
In a statement posted on her personal Facebook page, Leslie said, “Owning my behavior and wanting to do the right thing is the same thing. It broke my heart and crushed me to do this but last week I submitted my resignation and yesterday was my last day with 1Matters and Veterans Matter. While I won’t be involved in either, I have the privilege of still loving the people who have taken this journey with me, those who have served or have been served. Onward, return home.
Leslie called his previous language unacceptable in a statement to The Blade, a 13abcs media partner, and said it is not the conduct of the human and the leader that I want to be.
He also acknowledged an incident two years ago at The Blade when he pushed buttons on a woman after she identified herself as a feminist.
Three women accused Leslie of making unwanted advances and commenting on their appearances in affidavits under oath, reports The Blade.
1Matters released a statement on September 25 on its next steps:
The Board appreciates the information recently brought to its attention regarding the founder of this organization, Mr. Ken Leslie. The board has hired independent legal counsel and, after consideration and consideration, the board supports Mr. Leslies’ commitment to continue to educate themselves on this matter and to continue the therapy he began last year. The board is dedicated to preventing and eliminating harassment within the organization. The Council continues the successful 30-year mission of uniting community and nation to help those on the streets here and across the country.
