Kevin Stefanski on Baker Mayfield’s performance against Vikings

The Cleveland Browns claimed their third win of the season in Week 4, beating the Minnesota Vikings by a final score of 14-7.

Much post-game talk turned to Baker Mayfield’s lackluster performance that day, as he recorded 155 passing yards and posted a low 59.5 passer rating.

The Browns passer had several missed opportunities during the game, including knocking down Odell Beckham Jr. on what would have been an effortless touchdown for the wide.

After Cleveland’s win, head coach Kevin Stefanski explained where it went wrong for Mayfield in the game. Instead of blaming Mayfield for the exit, he took responsibility instead and noted that he just needed to go further to open the offense for the quarterback.

“I would have to look at it,” Stefanski said. “I mean I struggled. I have to do a better job opening up guys.

Mayfield notably didn’t have a strong chemistry with his main threats, including with Beckham. Including the mentioned clearance in the fourth quarter, Mayfield only connected with Beckham on two of his planned seven assists.

While the Browns’ defense has been showing tremendous performances lately, all eyes are also on Mayfield to see if he can make the most of the team’s threats.
