‘We can’t blame his choice’ Former Ferrari boss reveals efforts to sign Lewis Hamilton

“We can’t blame his choice” Former Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali says there was a time when Ferrari was pushing for Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton is arguably the greatest Formula 1 driver in history; at least his statistical prowess backs him up for the claim, and even at the age of 36 he’s at the top of his game.

Recently, Hamilton explained that he doesn’t understand why he never got the chance to race for Ferrari, despite so many successful campaigns during his formative years.

In response, former Ferrari boss and now F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali reveals that the Maranello-based team made an effort to sign Hamilton, but the Briton made different choices at the time,

“I think the answer Lewis was able to give was the right one. Today, I think that period is over. There is a movie that is sometimes very important for me to remember: Sliding Doors. There are times when if you don’t get on an elevator, you stay on the floor.

“I don’t know. This is the situation Lewis went through at this precise point in his life. I think that [we] can’t blame his choice, at least because he’s had an amazing career.

Lewis Hamilton, the biggest thorn for Ferrari

Over the past decade, Ferrari has had some chances of regaining their place at the top of the championship, especially when Sebastian Vettel was their main driver.

But Hamilton’s exceptional performance robbed Ferrari of the ultimate glory, and instead of being the potential ally, he became their greatest enemy.

Now, Ferrari as a unit has retreated in terms of competitiveness, and no longer shrugs its shoulders against rivals Mercedes, efforts are being made to rekindle Ferrari’s prestige in the sport.

But, it doesn’t look like a Ferrari driver will be able to lock the horns against Hamilton anytime soon.
