22-year-old student ‘ambushed at bin roadblock’ shocked as trolls blame her for ‘coming out so late’

A BUSINESS student ambushed at a roadblock was horrified when trolls blamed her for being targeted – telling her she was “out too late”.

Izzy Boyle, 22, was walking home from her early morning babysitting job when her way back to Dulwich, south London, was blocked by a rubbish bin on the road.

The University of Surrey student was terrified when she got out of her car and heard a rustle in the bushes, before she saw a number of people dressed in dark clothing approaching her.

Izzy had previously attempted to bypass the blockade near Old Kent Road in Peckham, south London, but his satellite navigation system continued to take him down the same road.

She wants to warn other women to beware of a new tactic being used to try to force women out of their cars.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: The whole road had islands in the middle all the way.

I only really thought about it when I stopped, after it happened, but there were a lot of places on this road where people could hide.

On either side of the island there was a blue bin, and I’m pretty sure it was ferry night in the area. I thought it was just kids doing it to be boring.

She posted the footage on her TikTok explaining what had happened, which shows the blue bin that stood in her way.

The majority of comments were positive, praising her for sharing the warning, but others blamed her for going out so late @ and even said she was literally asking for it.

One of them wrote: The other thing you can do to protect yourself is not to drive late at night alone.

A second post: Don’t blame the victim, but you do increase the chances of being robbed, raped, or kidnapped when you enter a crime-ridden area at 2am. Be careful.

Another said: Why the hell would you want to go out in the middle of the street at 2 a.m.

While a third added: have you ever finished crying for nothing?

Izzy said: I was shocked that there were people blaming me, some even saying I would be safer if I didn’t walk through Peckham in the early hours of the morning.

It surprised me how many comments blamed the victim, especially considering everything that has happened recently.

I won’t stop driving, but if I ever saw this again I would just walk through the trash or turn around and go home.

I considered taking my steering lock with me, but I didn’t want anyone looking and thinking about what was going on.

As soon as I got out of my car, I closed the door because I didn’t want anyone to jump in.

Before I could even lock it, I heard people coming from the alley or the scaffolding and saw two or three people coming towards me.

I didn’t see any distinguishing features, and at that point, I just panicked, got back in my car, and walked through the trash. I think they wore dark clothes on purpose.

At that point, I thought it wasn’t worth the risk, so I went through it. I wanted to share it because it didn’t occur to me that it was intentional.

The scariest part is wondering what could have happened if I had been on the other side of my car, and not near the driver’s seat.

Obviously that could have been a prank, but I don’t think it is, and that sort of thing doesn’t end very positively.

Once I posted the video a lot of people said it was a classic trick of car thieves and also people looking for mugging.

Anything could have happened, and I was really worried after people posted on my video that it had happened to them in Croydon and Farnham.

It could have resulted in my car being stolen or sexually assaulted, but you just don’t know what the motives were and it’s scary too.

I’m pretty paranoid, I’ve been skipped in Dulwich before and it made me pretty paranoid.

I think it makes me more aware of my surroundings, and if it wasn’t so late in the evening, I might not even have heard the rustle until it was too late.

With everything that has happened recently, I just wanted to make others aware that this is one thing that has happened.

If I had seen anything about it online before, I would never have gotten out of my car in this situation.

I got quite a few comments calling me stupid, and I was pretty tired and a little scared but just didn’t think about it.

Women shouldn’t have to take these precautionary measures, but we need to be aware that there are people who use these tactics.

Tactics used to get people out of their cars, men and women, but the majority of people who have commented are women.

I just want people to be aware, I’m pretty resilient, but the idea that it could have gone further is really the most worrying thing.

It could have been so many different things, and none of it would have been good.

Izzy reported the incident to the police, who gave him a case number and said they would be in contact.
