Marvel just applauded the most ridiculous review of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) in the latest episode of Disney + ‘s What if …
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marvel’s What If?
In Marvel’s What If …?, Marvel Studios applauds the people who say Captain Marvel isn’t smiling. The ongoing MCU Disney + series continues to imagine what The Infinity Saga would have looked like if certain aspects of it played out differently. After several weeks of creative alternate storylines, it’s safe to assume that What if …? episode 7 is the weirdest yet.
Entitled “What if… Thor was an only child?”, The outing visualized the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) coming to Earth to have a reckless party. Besides the Asgardians, he also brought in other alien beings with appearances from Nebula, Skurge, Grandmaster, Loki, and even Howard the Duck, among others. All this while Odin was in Odinsleep and Frigga (Josette Eales) was on vacation. SHIELD, led by interim director Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), has summoned Captain Marvel (Alexandra Daniels) to help stop Thor and his legion of revelers from wreaking more havoc. It didn’t suit the Asgardian prince, which led to several fights with Carol Danvers.

At one point, Thor, who is insufferable in this alternate reality, casually told Captain Marvel to “Relax. Have fun. Smile a little,” which naturally pissed off Carol. But before she could knock him out completely just to stop partying, Frigga entered to berate her son. That brief moment in What if …? episode 7 actually has a deeper meaning; it references the same reviews Brie Larson and Carol Danvers received in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel. Like Thor, online naysayers somehow had a problem with Carol not looking sympathetic in marketing and the movie in general. It’s an absurd thing to have a hard time considering superheroes don’t smile in their sheets and movies.
At the end of the outing, despite the God of Thunder’s inexcusable and misogynistic behavior towards Carol, she still helped him preserve the lie that he would be in Midgard for a culture exchange study. It proved that it is not personal for her; she just wanted to keep Earth safe. For his part, it seemed the God of Thunder was ashamed of the way he was treating her and was grateful for her help. He might even have been impressed by her ability to be graceful despite everything he did to her. Somehow this underlines that the supposed problem of Captain Marvel being too tense has no merit. Just because she’s pragmatic and efficient doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with her. Ultimately, she’s in good spirits and as efficient as any other hero in the MCU. Carol doesn’t deserve all the denigration and ill will she receives, whether it’s in the last episode of What if …? or in the main MCU.
After their initial conflict, expect Party Thor and Captain Marvel to end up teaming up in the animated series. The end of Episode 7 leads directly to the introduction of the Guardians of the Multiverse who will fight Vision Ultron, and both heroes are one of them. Back in the Sacred Timeline, their roads diverged after Avengers: Endgame, but it’s safe to say that they will cross paths on the road again.

About the author Ana Dumaraog (4,808 published articles)
An accidental and perpetually curious movie buff, Ana rekindled her love for writing several years ago and married it to all things pop culture. The result is a passionate young writer who could ramble (and of course, a pen) on movies and series for hours a day. She has a weakness for The Lion King, old songs and interior design; is currently obsessed with old sitcoms (The Golden Girls!); and won’t dare to watch horror movies although she (ironically) dies to see one. Although a little late to the party and being a true Force unbeliever, she now finds the Star Wars franchise quite fascinating (fun fact: it was a crazy Jar Jar Binks / Sith theory that lured it off). ‘attracted).
