San Francisco mayor defends critics after video shows her dancing without a mask at nightclub – CBS San Francisco

The Mayor of SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) London Breed was performing a damage check on Friday after he was filmed dancing without a mask during a night out at a club in San Francisco.

Some accuse the mayor of breaking his own strict rules on masking.

The video showed Mayor Breed dancing without a mask during a rare live performance by Oakland R&B group Tony! Toni! Tonne! at the Black Cat Club in San Francisco Thursday night.

We don’t need the funny police to come in and micro-manage us and tell us what we should or shouldn’t be doing, Breed said in an interview to address the controversy.

The city’s health order stipulates that participants in indoor shows must remain masked, except when actively eating or drinking. Breed claimed she was drinking at the time.

My drink was sitting at the table, Breed said. I got up and started dancing because I was feeling the spirit and not thinking of a mask. Some say the mayor was flouting the same strict rules that some SF business owners complained about.

One person posted on Twitter, You are the mayor and supposed to lead by example.

Another person, who said they followed the masking rules, expressed disappointment.

The mayor described the whole controversy as exaggerated.

This is not the first time Mayor Breed has come under fire for his actions during the pandemic.

Last November, she was criticized for meeting with people outside her home for a dinner at the French Laundry during a COVID wave in the fall.
