“Directing funding to protect our citizens from a pandemic to fuel mass incarceration is in direct violation of the objectives of ARP legislation and will particularly harm communities of color who are already disproportionately affected by over- incarceration and this public health crisis, “Nadler wrote.
Ivey lambasted the New York congressman, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, and criticized Democratic spending plans.
“I would suggest to the New York congressman, and for that matter the federal government, that they are more concerned with avoiding the impending government shutdown and running the country,” Ivey said in a statement Tuesday.
The Democrat-controlled federal government has never had a problem spending trillions of dollars on their favorite ideological projects, she added. These prisons need to be built and we have drawn up a budget conservative plan.

On Monday, Ivey called a special session of the Alabama legislature to discuss the state’s prison infrastructure and announce his intention to use federal funding. At the time, she called the prison’s infrastructure shattered, according to the Washington Post.
Several state GOP lawmakers have expressed support for Ivey’s proposed use of federal funds for prisons.
I really don’t care what the Washington Liberals think, tweeted Alabama State Senator Greg Reed (R).
We’re in a special session right now to protect the people of Alabama from costly federal intervention, and I really don’t care what the Washington Liberals think.

“We’re not going to let a New York politician tell Alabama what we can and can’t do,” he added. “These funds are intended to replace income lost as a result of the pandemic, and are clearly eligible for the construction of prisons.
State Senator Greg Albritton (right) said Ivey’s plan was the right thing to do, ”the Post reported.
We cannot expect to house people, detainees, in degrading and unsanitary conditions, “he said.” We have to fix the problems. The prisons are falling.
