The management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) reacted to the rape allegation made against Dr. Bode Ekundayo, lecturer in the Department of English and Literature, Faculty of Letters, of the institution.

The statement signed by the university’s public relations officer, Dr Benedicta Ehanire, added that “given the seriousness of the allegations and the legal issues involved, the case has been referred to the police for further investigation. “.

“Management, however, is not oblivious to its responsibility to ensure the good conduct of both the staff and the students of the University.

“As a result, management has ordered lecturer Dr Bode Steve Ekundayo to be questioned and placed on ban pending the conclusion of police investigations.

“These are in accordance with the internal mechanisms contained in the regulations governing the service of senior executives of the University, 2017.

“Management assures staff, students, parents and other stakeholders that investigations will be taken to their logical conclusion to ensure justice is done,” the statement said.
