Jamal Adams struggles, but Pete Carroll says don’t blame anyone in particular

The Seahawks traded two first-round draft picks to the Jets for Jamal Adams, then made Adams the highest-paid safety in the NFL. They haven’t had a lot of return on their investment.

Adams has struggled to cover the entire season, and even in the one area where he’s ever been effective – the blitz from the safe position – he hasn’t been a factor so far this season. In Thursday night’s loss to the Rams, Adams got lost in high school and failed to play as Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford hit DeSean Jackson for a 68-yard catch.

But Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said after the game he didn’t think it was fair to blame a player for the major issues the Seattle defense was facing.

“Unfortunately on the big game he didn’t find his way to the ball,” Adams said. “They were very lucky that this happened. We were on top and the guy doubled down and all that kind of stuff, and I don’t even know why he threw it. But the fact that they did it and that they did a play, gives them credit. It’s a great game from their quarterback and DeSean. You know, I’m not going after any guy for anything about anything right now. It’s not the moment. Go after me first.

People will certainly come after Carroll and Seahawks general manager John Schneider for mismanaging the Adams business. And opposing quarterbacks will continue after Adams, until he proves he’s the kind of player the Seahawks thought they were trading for.
